Christmas 2013

Christmas.....

Christmas came and went...  seem like it lasted a bit longer than usual, but could be due to Trey.  Christmas Eve here w/ Denise, Jim, and the boys.  Christmas morning here, and lunch at Mom's.  Trey had a very good haul, probably too much, so we took a few of his gifts (doubles & toys he had no interest/ will never play with) over to the Rescue Mission, along with some other gifts that neither David nor I will use. Check from Aunt Jean and a little extra from Mom.

Christmas break, at least for Trey, is not going very well.  Everyday he has been sent to his room for one reason or another.  For whatever the reason, he is not learning from his mistakes (rudeness, lack of politeness, even outright disrespect).  Tried to give him a break yesterday in the hopes that he would figure it out, but no- today he started up again and will be in his room all day.  Sad.

I have a lot of work to get done for work and class, and post-holiday stuff.  My plan is to spend today and the next week getting all of that done.

29.11.13

The day after....

Thanksgivng.

Sadly, left mom's under duress.  Argument.
Yes, I can be very negative about Trey, but I really don't have anyone to bitch to, so she gets an earful.  The reality is, not every day is going to be Disney Land and he is not always on his best behavior.  Recently, he go into some trouble at school, which turns out to be more than what we've been told (at least, from Trey).
Nevertheless, she can be very critical and mean.

Now, how long will this play out.... who knows.  I have not called her.

Of course, this experience begs the bigger questions, rather realizations....not happy in many aspects.

Getting that "disappear here" feeling, which is not good.

9.11.13

Few months

Been a crazy road...

David's dad died.  Been off work a few days.  Sad.  Bringing out the best and worst of family relationships.  Unless asked, I'm staying out of it.  Didn't cry at the service, but did at the burial (cremated).  David has a lot to do.

It will be a year the day after Thanksgiving.  Adoption process still going slow, with his mother appealing her termination of rights.  Slow is good..... First grade for Trey is going well.  Doing very good academically, but turning downward with some behavior.  Have not been called in yet, but might happen.  Issues at home, with Betsey saying that he is testing us.  What is going to happen is a big swat.... Swimming and tumbling still.

Some family issues have popped up, particularly at work- an aunt has contacted me and a cousin stopped Trey at a FB game.  Hate bringing him around, but I think seeing the HS activities is good for him.

Work is OK.  Love teaching, but not sure of the fit.  Big districts are different, not that Orangeville was a cake walk either, and I feel that (1) there are too many cooks in the kitchen and (2) decisions are made without talking to those involved/ affected.  Freeport was almost too transparent, whereas Rockford has a small group of decision makers that leaves many interested parties out of the loop..... Full plate otherwise.  Not used to having so many students and have one class that is mostly dreadful.  Not getting much assistance on the latter.

Being out of the loop.... that describes my practicum for Concordia.  Not going well at all and actually considering dropping.  Not getting the time and opportunities- really no help at all.  I've described it to my supervisor as "bird searching for crumbs".  He has been as accommodating as he can, once he realized that I'm a rather good student.  I have a project due that is garbage and flubbed.  I am very torn with what to do: this is the last year and it will be over when this school year is over, so I should just push through it and figure it out; should drop and restart next year, although the State certification process will be different.

Weather is very fall- cool.  Hoping to get out in the yard today, as it is probably the last decent weekend, but does not look like it is going to happen (too much to do).  Plays tricks with my mood, but probably more than the weather- very fight or flight.

4.8.13

Countdown to school year

22 days until the school year officially begins.
My school year unofficially begins tomorrow, with a "new teacher, meet-and-greet" luncheon at Auburn.  I hope to also get into my classroom.
Last time I was there, a couple of weeks ago, the custodial staff had not cleaned that area of the school yet.  I have not been in since, so I am hoping.
Next week, I have some workshop training.  (Also, an appointment with Tim to work on the other arm.).
After that, District orientation and institute days.
School begins 26 August.

Since Florida, summer has been a bit slow, somewhat of a "drag" feeling.
Not that much has been accomplished during this time.
Although the east yard landscape project is done.

Trey doing alright.
A bit of a peeing problem, but that seems to be over.
Parental rights terminated.  Waiting for appeal (not expected), and then move towards adoption.

Not smoking.
A few cheats here and there, but OK.
Weight gain is bad this time- jelly beans and m&ms.
Bizarre dream cycle started; interrupted sleep.

David and I not on the same page.
Not sure where this is going to lead.

9.7.13

July

Back from Florida for a few days....  Mom's condo.
Nice to relax; bad sunburn; bad storms the last two days.
Another realization that I am too old for "family" vacation.  No more than three days.
Trey had a nice time, and had never seen an ocean before.

Still not smoking, approaching day 30.
I think the habitual part is nearly faded, but the "pangs" still exist.
Back to the Dr. today for a check-in.

IKEA projects to do.
Landscaping sometime this summer (TBA).
School meetings and preparations.

Otherwise, OK.

20.6.13

Day 10- not smoking.

Nerves a bit wrecked, but OK.
Stomach ache due to way too many jellybeans.

Mornings are probably the most difficult.
Driving is not so bad anymore, although I need to clean the car (smell).

More tired than anticipated.

Decided not to go to Vegas to see Dad.
Among other things, I'm not ready to be in a smoking environment.

Projects abound around the house, but not much getting accomplished.

Two papers to write and then classes are over!
Florida after that.

Otherwise, OK- but tired.

17.6.13

Week 1- not smoking

Going alright, better than anticipated, but not great.
I think the big cravings are over, at least I hope.
Short 'pangs' throughout the day, but manageable.

Weight gain, but expected.
Shortness in temper/ patience, but expected.

Otherwise OK.

11.6.13

Quit, day 1

No smoking for almost 24 hours.
Doing the Chantix route again.
OK, but anxious, bothersome.... attempts at justification, but I tossed it all yesterday afternoon, so it is not going to happen.

Eating and eating.
Nothing much else accomplished thus far.
Maybe a nap.
Will need extra time at the gym.

6.6.13

Summer

Week out and actually a little bored.
Not that I've been terribly busy nor have I completed the tasks I've set out to do; already have my TTD list.
Mood is OK, perhaps just procrastination creeping in.
Weather has been cold(er) and rainy.

Trey's last day of school is today.
Summer camp at B&G- day camp- for most of the summer.
Swimming and gymnastics at the Y.
Florida at the end of June; maybe Vegas later.
Yesterday was institute, and he was a bit ornery.  Hopefully, it was not a sign of what is to come over the next few months.

Completed all of the RPS paperwork.
Goes to the Board on the 11th.  Not foreseeing any issues, so hopefully the ball will be moving.
I need to take the SmartBoard training- makes me nervous.
There are a handful of days for the textbook training- different; Realidades.
Orientation is the week classes begin- three days prior.
Paperwork for Concordia sent, although administration at Auburn will change.

Started Chantix again.
Third day in; quit day is the 11th.

Landscape project on the agenda- west yard.
We'll see what CV comes up with.
Wanted a fence for the back, but way too expensive.

Four weeks of class left- looking forward to it.
Two classes- one online and one in-person.
Not a lot of work, but more than I really want to do.
A handful of projects/papers left to do.

Otherwise, OK.

29.5.13

End of school year

Adios Orangeville.
Final days were a bit rough, but it is over.
Rudeness was overwhelming- both from students and some staff.
Goodbyes were brief, although Mr. Schudel came up to see me yesterday for a talk.
I went to see those that I wanted to see.
I finished packing last week, so yesterday I just had a couple of things.
Sad that the students will not have art anymore; glad that they found a Spanish teacher.
Brought over all of my Spanish materials from the basement- hopefully the new teacher will be able to create curriculum (although I made my recommendations previously for new materials).
Donated about 100 books to the library.

Overall, I was glad I had the experience in a small rural school.
I am grateful for the opportunities I had there and wish I was able to do more.
Sadly, just not a good "fit"- distance, personalities, expectations, etc.
Glad I am not there for this vision of a vocational HS.  Sadly, I believe they are ignoring students who want to go off to a university, even though it may be a minority.

Over to RPS 205 for paperwork today.
Was hired in the first round for Spanish position at Auburn.
The 20-minute commute will save me $$$.
Excited and nervous.  Not sure of the "fit".
Not 100% with working for RPS (wanted the Honnegah job, but they never called).
Replacing a teacher that died (murdered) last year- from what I have read, he was popular.  Perhaps we have similar personality traits.

I contacted Freeport awhile ago, never hearing anything back until recently.
Something tells me that the return would be a 50-50 gamble- comfort factor of familiar surroundings, but the issues still remain.
I asked for an offer; I was not going to fill out an application.
I gave the time-line (Auburn), but never got a reply.
Nevertheless, David is not inclined to move and I wish not to do anymore "white knuckle" driving during the winter.

So, summer is here.... project list already made.
Landscaping the east side this year- at least, CV cleaning it up.  Fence for the back.  (Money from Aunt Jean a couple of months ago.)
Things to do around the house- finish the MSTR; basement is a mess; hope to finish the cabinets in the DR; maybe a new TV for the LR.
Florida in June.  I want to squeeze time in for Vegas.

Trey is fine.
To me, a typical 6-year old.
We may be a little tough on him, but he has some catching up to do, particularly with habitual responsibilities and self-awareness in regards to timeliness.
Day camp for him for most of the summer.  Swimming and gymnastics as well.
Still in the early stages of the adoption: parental termination process.

Otherwise, OK.

31.3.13

Easter

Nice day.... a bit of yard work; prepping for the season.

Trey outside on his scooter, itching to get on his bike.
Needs to practice his balance as we did not set the training wheels level.

This morning, an egg hunt and that is about it.
Yesterday, Mom was here to decorate eggs.

Went to Vegas Monday and returned on Thursday.
Fun, but somewhat exhausting (traveling with a 6 year-old).
Everyone had a nice time.

Not looking forward to going back to work, although it is only two more months; last student day is May 28th, so I am done the 29th.

Applied for jobs at Hononegah and Harlem.
I am hoping to hear something soon.

Principal test coming up.
Not looking forward to it, but will make the best of it.
Crossing my fingers to pass the first time.

25.3.13

Spring Break

More snow yesterday..... 30s and 40s all week.
Not much of a break weather-wise, but glad to have some time off.

Trey and I off to Vegas later today for a few days to visit Dad and Jennifer.
Thought it was a good to go, especially since we have moved towards adoption.
80s there, so not complaining.

Job search:
Position open at Hononegah- crossing my fingers for this one.
Have an inside contact (wife of someone in my Concordia class who is in the FL Department there), so I am hoping; REALLY HOPING to get a call for an interview and have it be successful.

Supposedly, my old job at FMS is open.  Posted on the ROE, but not on the District site.
Emailed Nick and Norman, but never received a reply; heard back from Hardy- positive.
Will not apply unless I hear from Nick.

Otherwise, will keep looking.
Have applied to a number in the 'burbs, but a move is less than ideal.

So much to do still to get ready for our trip.
Hopefully, David will enjoy some quiet time.

16.3.13

Mid-March

Winter still hanging around; maybe even a bit more next week.
Had another snow day a couple of weeks ago, the first week of March.
Last year it was already in the 70s around this time.
Given the drought last year, I am not complaining.

Work is work is work.
Fading out a bit; Not ineffective, although somewhat detached.
Focusing on a handful of students and that is about it.  Want to make sure they get everything I can do to end the year on a high note.

No job prospects for next year.
Never heard back from the positions I applied to earlier.
Rockford will post sometime next month.
Might be a possibility to return to Freeport, but that is yet to be determined; heard from a couple of Freeport people.  District has not posted positions anyway, and distance will still be an issue.

Going to Vegas at the end of the month.
Just Trey and I, so Dad can meet him.
Only for a few days (my spring break- Trey is missing school).

Signed "permanency" papers for Trey, getting the ball rolling for adoption.
He's doing well.
Did not get into Washington Gifted, but White Swan is OK for another couple of years.
Still having some behavioral issues, but nothing major, and probably is age-related.
Observing some defiance/ bad choices when given a choice.
Good report card- "on-level" on most, higher in reading.

Had his birthday a few weeks ago- bowling party with friends and then family bday dinner.
We got him a bike; we just need the weather to cooperate.

Party (and other expenses- car problem) dipped into my financial pad, so somewhat nervous.
Riding in the red; need to get back into the black soon.

Gym schedule going good.
Waining a bit last week, but definitely some gains overall.

Otherwise, OK.
Have a full plate, tired, and a bit unnerved, but OK.

8.2.13

Another snow day..... no. 4? 5?

Advantage to rural district- city crews are small.  No school today.  Rockford OK.

Going to catch up on things, clean up the house and get my weekend list parred down.  Tonight is HeartArt

Everything OK here....  either move with life, or you don't.  Tired of moaning and groaning about it; I know what it is.

28.1.13

End of January

No school (work) today due to ice and dense fog.
Here in Rockford, we're fine, whereas westbound in Stephenson County and beyond, it was a bit bad.  No surprise that Freeport did not call off (but the surrounding schools did).
Of course, David told me after I was back from the gym- I was watching the news to see and my phone was off (in the car anyway).
Able to get errands done, but took a lot longer than expected (Monday morning is not a good time to shop- restocking mess).
Have other things to do- not sure what the rest of the day will entail.

Trey doing fine.
"Honeymoon" is over, way over.  Somewhat defiant and off-task, maybe some concerns: Is this typical behavior of a 5-year old boy, or is there something else?
He took the placement test for Washington (gifted).  It will be a month or two before we know.
Swimming lessons are going pretty good; Dance recital this weekend (and then probably the end of that).

Work is work.
Received my letter from Mr. Schudel, and a very good one at that.
Starting to look, in the hopes of finding something closer.
Went over to Freeport to reestablish ties.  We shall see, but it still a bit far.  Maybe they will make me an offer I can't refuse.
Will set up things as much as I can for next year at OHS (whomever may be teaching, could be me if I don't find anything).
Otherwise, somewhat trudging along, already begun the countdown (less than 4 months).
Taken on a bit more than I can handle in a couple of arenas, but going to make them work.

Not a big fan of my school finance class this semester.
The teacher talks and talks and talks.
We don't get much accomplished.  For the students that don't do anything, the class is probably just somewhere he/she has to be once a week.  I'd like to get something more out of it.
Dr. D. returns for the next class.

Doing OK otherwise.
Gym schedule working, although continually pressed for time.  Some evidence, but not much.
Thinking about quitting smoking again- but not 100%.  Educated enough to know that I need to, but desire is another thing.

Things to do.

5.1.13

2013

Break over; been back since Wednesday.
Was a good break, although busy.

Trey here just over a month now.
Still adjusting, but fine overall; he five years old, which is something to get used to (for him and us).
David has his ups and downs.  Worrisome.
We're both tired.
Trey returns to school on Monday, so maybe things will be a bit quieter.
Not sure how it will turn out in the end.

Work is work.
Worked on resume over break.
Postings should start soon.

Somewhere in the in-between.
